Police confirm body found near golf course is missing Peter Kerevan

Police have confirmed that the body found near a golf course is the missing pensioner Peter Kerevan.

The 76-year-old was found by dog walkers in the undergrowth near to the Liverpool Municipal Golf Club in Fazakerley , shortly before 6pm on Tuesday, 10 September.

Emergency services were seen parked closed to the golf course for most of the evening, where a number of people reported seeing the officers carrying evidence bags before a funeral van arrived at around 8:30pm.

The family have been informed by Merseyside Police and have thanked everyone for their support during the search to find him.

Mr Kerevan, who suffered from severe dementia, first went missing from his home in Aintree on Monday 29 July.

A huge community search party lead by Mr Kerevan's family, organised regular searches in the area where he lived and beyond over the last two months.

The day after the body was found, the family acknowledged the discovery in a statement on their Facebook page.

It read: "The family have been informed that the body found near  Kirkby golf course  matches the description and clothing of Peter and the police believe it is him.

"As you can imagine our hearts are broken and we know all of your hearts will be broken too.

"We cannot express our thanks to each and every person that has helped us during this time.

You’ve gone above and beyond what we ever could have imagined when we asked for help and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

"We will of course update you when more information comes in."

And on September 13, Peter's son's Matthew and Peter Jr, posted an emotional tribute to their dad with a video that shows pictures of him as he grew up and as a young man with his beloved sons.

Along side the video, they said: "A tribute to a great man........OUR DAD.

"I would like to thank everybody for the help and support at this difficult Time.

"We have been overwhelmed with the love we have received.

"Thank you to the Aintree community and family for everything. Xx

"We will always remember the good times and we will love you forever."

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police, said: "We can confirm that the body found near to the Liverpool Municipal Golf Club in Fazakerley on Tuesday, 10 September is that of missing man Peter Kerevan.

"Peter, 76, went missing from his home address in Aintree on Monday 29 July.

"There is nothing to suggest there is anything suspicious surrounding his death and the matter has now been referred to the coroner.

"Peter’s family have been informed and pass their sincere thanks for the support of everyone involved, and ask now that their privacy be respected at this difficult time."
