The driver of a Vauxhall Vectra led police on a chase through estates in Bolton during the early hours, driving on footpaths in an attempt to escape.
When the car finally came to a halt, the occupants abandoned it and ran off across fields, Greater Manchester Police said on Twitter this morning (Sunday, January 30).
The driver had immediately tried to make off after spotting a police patrol on Lever Edge Lane, but ditched the car on Garswood Road, Greater Manchester Police Traffic reported.
The car was then found to be on false plates and was seized.
GMP Traffic tweeted: "The Vauxhall Vectra was sighted Lever Edge Lane.
"Would immediately make off on sighting #ME18 and would be pursued through the estates even along foot paths before being abandoned on Garswood Road whereby the occupants ran into the fields.
"Found to be on false plates. Car seized."
Two other cars were seized by GMP Traffic officers after separate incidents in Salford and Manchester.
The driver of a Ford Fiesta was spotted driving erratically through Salford, GMP Traffic tweeted.
He then allegedly failed to stop for a red light and made an illegal U-turn before being locked up for drink driving.
His car, which had no insurance, was seized.
The GMP Traffic tweet read: "The driver of this Fiesta was driving erratically through Salford a short while ago. He failed to stop for a red light and contravened a no U turn before he was locked up for drink driving by ZME08. Vehicle seized no insurance.."
Officers spotted another car because it was driving with no lights on, they reported.
It was stopped on Cheetham Hill Road and found to have no valid insurance.
