Police have confirmed a Queensland man was working as an Uber driver when he was allegedly killed by his passengers on the Fraser Coast.

Officers found the body of Scott Cabrie, 47, near a boat ramp at Howard, a small town about four hours north of Brisbane, on Sunday.

Two teenagers have been charged with murder over his death.

Detective Acting Superintendent Darrin Shadlow said Mr Cabrie had been reported missing on Friday.

He was last seen leaving his home in Toogoom, 20 minutes from Howard, on February 6.

"[The Uber driver] received a fare and subsequently collected a number of people," Superintendent Shadlow said.

"Police believe there were three people that were picked up, and two of those people have been charged with the murder."

Superintendent Shadlow said investigations found the two teenagers allegedly tried to rob the 47-year-old and the situation "escalated".

He described the outcome as "tragic".

"A 47-year-old person goes about their business and unfortunately doesn't come home," he said.

"It affects obviously his immediate family and friends, but also the wider Hervey Bay community.

"It's shocking to have any sort of violent crime of this nature, but for a 17- and 18-year-old [to be charged], yes it probably does bring another level to it."

Teenagers face court

Police have arrested and charged an 18-year-old man with murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, arson, robbery, and deprivation of liberty.

He appeared before the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Monday via video link and his matter was adjourned until April 20.

He made no application for bail.

A 17-year-old male was taken into custody and charged with murder, arson, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, robbery, and deprivation of liberty.

He is expected to appear in the Hervey Bay Children's Court on Tuesday.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have dashcam footage or information regarding the movements of a blue 2017 Nissan X-Trail on Torbanlea Pialba Road, between 11pm and midnight on February 6, to contact them.
