Police charge teenager over primary school fire near Hobart

A 14-year-old youth has been charged with deliberately lighting a fire that destroyed several classrooms at a Hobart primary school.

The fire at the Bowen Road Primary School started about 4:00pm on Saturday.

A joint investigation by the Tasmania Fire Service and police determined it had been deliberately lit.

The 14-year-old youth will be proceeded against under the Youth Justice Act.

Police said a number of the classrooms, which had been recently renovated, will have to be demolished.
