A 24-year-old man has been charged with unlawful striking causing death after a 39-year-old Gold Coast man died following an alleged violent attack last weekend.

Police say Michael Hayes was punched in the face on May 27, at an event at Sanctuary Cove, by another man, who officers allege then left the scene on foot.

Mr Hayes was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition and treated in the hospital's intensive care unit.

He died on Thursday morning.

Police arrested Alexandar Ivan Rasic on the Sunshine Coast, where he had travelled from his Hope Island home.

Mr Rasic was remanded in custody at his court hearing in Maroochydore on Friday morning.

The matter will next be heard in the Southport Magistrates Court on June 7.
