Police car rammed in pursuit of stolen camper van

A police car has been rammed by two males driving a stolen camper van in County Armagh on Wednesday.

The vehicle was stolen after a burglary at a house on the Portadown Road in Tandragee at about 5.30pm.

The house had been ransacked, with money, jewellery and the keys to the van taken, which was then stolen.

It was spotted in the Armagh area later that day, where it failed to stop for police.

It was then sighted in Keady a short time later, with the driver then ramming a police car.

The PSNI has said significant damage was caused to the police vehicle, but that the two officers involved received only minor injuries.

The van made off from the collision, before it was abandoned shortly after.

Police have said two men got out of the camper van and made off on foot across fields.

The Air Support Unit was then called in, as was the PSNI's Dog Unit, as well as help from An Garda Síochána.

Irish police confirmed that they had arrested a 16-year-old boy in the Tullintrot area of Castleblayney on Wednesday.

He has since been released pending referral to the Youth Diversion Programme.

The PSNI is appealing for anyone with information on the incident to contact detectives or Crimestoppers.
