A man in his 60s was killed on Boxing Day when he was hit by a police car, it has emerged.
Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports a 62-year-old man had been hit by a marked car in Livingston at around 10.15pm.
He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but later died.
It is understood his next of kin have been informed as an investigation got underway by the Police Investigation and Review Commissioner (PIRC).
The incident is the third following the deaths of two women over the festive period following collisions with police cars.
The road was closed for six hours in the wake of the tragedy to allow investigators to examine the scene of the tragedy.
Senior Investigator Steven Carr from PIRC said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the man who died.
“Our investigation into the circumstances of this incident is continuing.
"I would urge any drivers with dash cam footage, or anyone who witnessed the collision, to please contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference 3422 of 26 December 2022 or alternatively the PIRC during office hours on 01698 542900.”
Superintendent Andrew Hall added: “Police attended at Almond Link Road in Livingston around 10.15pm on Monday, 26 December, 2022, following a collision involving a marked police car and a male pedestrian.
“A 62-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and was pronounced dead a short time later.
“The male driver and sole occupant of the police car did not require medical treatment.
“Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the man who died."
The man is the third person to be killed after being hit by a police car over the festive period.
Mum of three Heather Smedley, 53, died on December 23 after she was hit by a police car chasing a seperate vehicle suspected of being stolen in Greater Manchester.
Greater Manchester Police say the horror smash happened shortly after 10am, following a "short pursuit" of a separate suspect vehicle.
Heather's family described her as a "kind, gentle, beautiful soul" with a "contagious laugh".
Then, on Christmas Eve, 22-year-old Rachael Louise Moore was struck by a police car at around 8.10pm in Liverpool and died from her injuries.
