Police called to venue after protesters attempt to enter as Anas Sarwar gives speech

Protesters attempted to gain entry to a venue where Labour leader Anas Sarwar was about to make a speech.

A group of people were protesting against UK Labour Leader Keir Starmer's stance on the ongoing war in Gaza. Police were called on to stop people entering Rutherglen Town Hall on Monday morning.

They were demanding to speak to MP Michael Shanks and shouting Labour should be "ashamed".

More than a dozen protesters gathered outside the hall and a number entered the front door.

Labour officials and venue staff stopped them reaching the hall, and several police attended and spoke to the protesters.

A number made their points before returning outside.

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
