Police call off physical searches for missing teenager from Stornoway

POLICE have said that physical searches for a teenager missing from Stornoway last seen more than two weeks ago have been called off.

Aleksandr Benga was last seen around 8.45am on Monday, November 18 2024 near to the water wheel within the Lewis Castle grounds.

The 16-year-old is described as 6ft 2in tall and of slim build with short brown hair and was last seen wearing a beige jumper and black jeans and police say he also had a yellow beanie hat with him.

Specialist search officers from Aberdeen and Inverness had travelled to the island to assist with the searches and partner agencies provided support.

Police have said physical searches have now concluded but urged anyone with information or dash-cam footage to come forward.

Inspector Euan Cowan said: “Aleksandr Benga, 16, was last seen around 8.45am on Monday, November 18, 2024 in the Lewis Castle area of Stornoway.

“Despite extensive enquiries and rigorous searches involving a number of local and national specialist police resources, Aleksandr remains a missing person.

“Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time and we remain in regular contact with them.

“Physical searches have now concluded, however we will continue to review all available information and act on any new details which are passed to police.

“Please bring any information to our attention by calling 101, quoting incident 0803 of November 18, 2024.”
