Police call for public assistance to find Alice Springs man Daniel Johnson, 45, who has been missing for three days

Police are calling for public assistance to find a man who went missing after leaving his supported accommodation facility in Alice Springs almost three days ago.

Daniel Johnson, 45, walked away from his home in the suburb of Larapinta around 7pm on Saturday evening, according to Sergeant Phil Emmett.

"He walked away from his carers towards bushland on Larapinta Drive and hasn't been seen since," Sergeant Emmett said at a press conference on Tuesday.

Mr Johnson was wearing a red check jacket, blue jeans, steel cap boots and a black and green hat.

Sergeant Emmett said Mr Johnson suffers from diabetes and epilepsy which, "if left untreated, might be cause for concern".

Up to 37 police officers have been involved in the search operation over recent days, including four on police horses and a helicopter.

Officers have also been doorknocking on the streets surrounding Mr Johnson's home.

"We’re really trying to find anybody who may have captured the missing person on CCTV that might face Larapinta Drive or Kramer Street," Sergeant Emmett said.

Sergeant Emmett said there was "nothing to suggest" that Mr Johnson had left town nor that there were suspicious circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

"It's more reasonable to consider he's wandered into the scrub and perhaps become disorientated," he said.

He said the search would continue on Wednesday.

"We’ll make every effort to find Mr Johnson, safe and well, as soon as we can."

Anyone who has seen Mr Johnson or who has information of his whereabouts is urged to contact police on 131 44 and quote reference number 1019 3177.
