Police ban 14 people from Mansfield town centre after spate of crime

Police have banned 14 people from Mansfield's town centre following a spate of incidents including shop thefts and anti-social behaviour. The town's district police team said that officers undertook two "days of action" in Mansfield to increase safety in the area.

These took place on December 14 and 15 and as a result, 14 people were told to leave Mansfield's town centre and retail area for 48 hours. This action is known as a dispersal order, when police can instruct groups to leave a certain area if their presence or behaviour has resulted, or is likely to result, in the public being harassed or intimidated.

As well as ordering the 14 people to leave, the police team said that nine people were arrested or voluntarily interviewed for shop theft, seven people were charged or reported for summons to court and two people were cautioned for shop theft. Meanwhile, four people were issued with a fixed penalty notice, and two people were dealt with using community resolutions - which can include an apology or actions such as an offer of compensation.

The police team said: "Your local neighbourhood team is working with our partners day in, day out, to make Mansfield a safer place to live, work and visit." Andy Abrahams, the Mayor of Mansfield, thanked the team by saying: "You are making such a positive difference around people feeling safer and secure in the town centre."
