Two women have died in a suspicious house fire in Adelaide's inner south-west early this morning.
Emergency services were called to the house on Emerald Street in Edwardstown at 5am after a neighbour noticed a fire inside and called triple-0.
SA Police said two people who were related to each other were found dead inside the home after the fire was extinguished.
Police would not say how they were related to each other nor their ages or sexes, but later revealed both victims were women.
Neighbours have said they were a mother and daughter.
The cause and circumstances of their deaths are now under investigation, according to Detective Chief Inspector Kieran Baggoley.
"We are not ruling out anyone else being involved because we are so early in the investigation. However, we are focused solely at this stage on the two occupants within the address," he said.
The blaze, which was put out within 10 minutes by 22 firefighters, was isolated to a spare room of the house, he said.
"The fire at this stage is being treated as suspicious," Chief Inspector Baggoley said.
"It's important for us when we go to scenes like this that we have that level of response.
"We want to make sure that we've covered all bases in relation to what could have occurred at this stage, but we are treating it as suspicious."
Major Crime detectives have spent the day collecting evidence, while waiting for the results of a post-mortem examination.
Officers wearing smoke masks have taken photos inside the home, and police have doorknocked neighbours.
They have also asked for anyone with information to come forward.
Home owned by housing organisation
The house is owned by YourPlace Housing, which provides accommodation mainly for people with a disability.
In a statement, the organisation said it was "devastated" to learn of the fire which killed its tenants.
"We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the people who died," it said.
"YourPlace Housing is working with the relevant authorities to assist them with their investigation of the fire.
"We're also providing support and counselling to our team and others within our community who've been impacted by this tragedy."
The value of the damage to the house is estimated at $100,000.
One neighbour said he heard a glass window shattering.
"It is concerning, very much," another neighbour, Olga Aginartzis, said.
Another neighbour, Naveen Kumar, said it was "very sad to hear".
"I express my condolences to their family," he said.
