Police arrest young boys accused of car theft, attempted break-ins

Four teenage boys have been accused of trying to break into homes after allegedly stealing "several" vehicles in September, ACT police said.

Police have alleged the teenagers drove a stolen Audi to Denman PRospect where they tried to enter two homes unsuccessfully before fleeing.

The boys are accused of driving the sedan to a home in Yarralumla where they allegedly stole a grey Aston Martin and a grey Porsche early on Sunday morning.

Police accused the boys of abandoning the Audi in Weston.

"The three vehicles were captured on CCTV cameras at a petrol station in Holt where the group filled up two vehicles and left without paying," police said.

"Police attempted to pull the vehicles over but the drivers refused to comply with directions, driving on the wrong side of the road and at excessive speed to evade police."

The vehicles were allegedly abandoned and recovered the following day in Macquarie, Macgregor and Nicholls.

After an investigation, police searched a home in Macquarie on October 3 where they arrested two of the boys allegedly involved in the burglary. They faced court on October 4.

The other two teens accused of participating in the incidents were arrested on October 10 at the same address, police said. The pair were scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court.

"All four were on bail at the time of the alleged offences," a statement from ACT Policing said.

"Police also believe the group are responsible for the theft of two other vehicles - a black Audi SQ5 (ACT registration YPJ 66H) stolen from Red Hill on 3 October 2024, and a black BMW X2 (NSW registration EYF 90F) stolen from Sydney on 8 October 2024 - which are yet to be recovered by police."

All the teenagers have been charged with multiple offences including driving a motor vehicle without consent, aggravated burglary, and unlawful possession of stolen property.

Anyone who has any information or has seen the vehicles, which may be parked in suburban streets, were asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or onthe Crime Stoppers ACT website.

They were asked to quote reference number 7862669.
