Police intercepted a Mercedes which failed to stop at a Heathrow checkpoint and seized a weapon and cash from the car.

The vehicle was stopped at just before 12.30pm on Thursday with social media images showing a police after it blocked off the car and forced it to halt.

The ‘tactical stop’ was followed by the arrest of the driver and passenger on an entrance road to Terminal 2. One officer suffered a minor hand injury during the incident.

A police statement said: “At 12:26hrs on Thursday, 24 November, a vehicle failed to stop at a routine checkpoint at Terminal 2, Heathrow.

“Officers made a tactical stop of the vehicle and two male suspects were arrested for failing to stop and possession of an offensive weapon. A quantity of cash was seized from the vehicle. They were taken to and west London police station where they remain.

“During the stop an officer sustained an injury to his hand. He has been taken to hospital for treatment.” Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or to remain anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
