Police arrest man over ‘murder’ of woman, 54, missing for six months in south London

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder over the disappearance of a woman missing for six months.

Nazire Koreli, 54, from Welling, south east London, hasn’t been seen or heard from since September last year.

Mrs Koreli was reported as missing to the Metropolitan Police on February 28.

She is described as a woman of a slim build, with light brown hair and olive skin.

A force spokesman said: “Officers are carrying out multiple enquiries to locate Nazire.”

On Monday, a man in his fifties was detained on suspicion of murder in connection with her disappearance. He remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley of Specialist Crime South said: “Since receiving this report our officers have made multiple enquiries to locate Nazire.

“We are keeping an open mind and this is currently being managed as a missing person investigation.

“Officers have arrested a man in connection with Nazire’s disappearance who remains in custody.

“Nazire had many friends and acquaintances in the Bexley area, so we are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen her from September 2024 to March this year.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101, quoting CAD 8315 of 5 March, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
