Man, 23, charged with snatching dummies from babies in Essex

A man will appear in court charged with snatching dummies out of the mouths of babies in Essex.

Essex Police said pacifiers were taken from babies in Harlow on four occasions between 10 February and 7 August.

Josh Guilder, 23, of no fixed address, was arrested on Monday on suspicion of theft from a person, robbery and using threatening behaviour to cause alarm or distress.

Four separate incidents were reported in the Staple Tye Shopping Centre, Woodcroft, Parsloe Road and Cooks Spinney areas.

Essex Police said the investigation began after “a series of reports of a man approaching people with babies, and removing their dummies”.

He is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on August 16.

DCI Alan Blakesley said: “We know these incidents rightly caused concern amongst the community in Harlow.

“We acted quickly and decisively in investigating these matters and I would like to thank the multitude of people who shared our appeals and came forward with information to assist us with our enquiries.”
