Police around the globe join forces in crackdown on mob boss Daniel Kinahan including sanctions on cartel

Police forces around the globe have launched a co-ordinated crackdown on mob boss Daniel Kinahan and his operations, sources revealed on Sunday night.

It is understood there will be international sanctions as part of this fresh operation to target the 44-year-old drug baron, which includes financial penalties.

Gardai and the UK's National Crime Agency are believed to be central to the new approach as they work with police agencies around the world.

Although the exact details on this op are not yet clear, sources say it is a significant move on Kinahan, who remains in Dubai.

A source said: “This is huge – it’s a move by police forces across the world on Daniel Kinahan.

“It has been known for years that it was always going to take an international co-ordinated approach to take Kinahan down, and this is now what is happening.

“It will include sanctions against the gang and other approaches of targeting the cartel. It is hugely significant.”

The gardai have had serious success in tackling the cartel since their onslaught against the Hutch Gang in a feud which claimed 18 lives.

The NCA have claimed the biggest scalp yet after dismantling the Kinahan cartel’s No2 Thomas “Bomber” Kavanagh’s UK drug smuggling and money laundering operation for which he is now serving 21 years in jail.

The High Court in Dublin previously established how Kinahan runs the day-to-day operations of the cartel in the Criminal Assets Bureau case against cartel thug Liam Byrne.

In 2020, the Special Criminal Court further established that gang carries out "execution-style" murders and trafficks drugs and arms on a global scale.
