Police are upping patrols in Foxbar following rape in Paisley park

Paisley police are stepping up patrols in the Foxbar area of the town following a rape in a park at the weekend.

Police Scotland revealed that the victim, a 44-year-old woman, had been walking through Durrockstock Park around 9pm on Saturday when she was attacked by a man in his 50s.

Police say he has dark grey hair and it’s thought he was wearing a dark top or jumper, dark tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

Officers investigating have not confirmed whether the culprit was known to the victim or not.

They have issued a plea to anybody who might have seen the man described to get in touch with them to help them locate him.

Detective Inspector Alex Allardyce said: “Officers are carrying out enquiries to trace the man responsible and would ask anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or concerning in the area at the time to please get in touch.”

DI Allardyce also sought to calm Foxbar residents’ nerves by saying there would be more officers in the area while investigations continue, saying: “We would like to reassure locals that additional patrols are in place and anyone with information should contact officers on 101 quoting reference 3611 of 16 July, 2022.”

Durrockstock Park was sealed off to the public as investigations were carried out at the site.

Police had been present at the park since Saturday night after they were called to the area to investigate the attack.

The park was expected to fully reopen this afternoon following the “serious sexual assault.”

Detectives were seen leaving the park yesterday afternoon and the cordon that had been put up to seal off areas of the park was being removed.

The park had been closed off at the Waverley Road end but remained open from the Durrockstock Road entrance. The newly refurbished playpark was also sealed off.
