The woman was attacked as she was walking through the park.
The suspect is described as being in his 50s with dark grey hair. It’s thought he was wearing a dark top or jumper, dark tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.
Detective Inspector Alex Allardyce said: “Officers are carrying out enquiries to trace the man responsible and would ask anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or concerning in the area at the time to please get in touch.
“We would like to reassure locals that additional patrols are in place and anyone with information should contact officers on 101 quoting reference 3611 of 16 July, 2022.”
Pictures taken this morning show officers patrolling the area and large parts of the park sealed off.
They have taped off sections of the park, including the newly-refurbished play park, which was reopened last month.
The park is closed off at at the Waverley Road end but remains open from the Durrockstock Road entrance.
