Police appear to use emergency lights to pick up passengers from Lime Street

This is the moment a police car used emergency lights to stop in a yellow box junction and collect two passengers from Liverpool Lime Street.

Private hire driver Marius Calita, 38, from Tuebrook, had just parked on Skelhorne Street in Liverpool City Centre when he saw a Merseyside Police car pull up in front of him and put on emergency flashing lights. The patrol car stopped in a yellow box junction and dashcam footage caught the moment the police officer was approached by two women who had just left Liverpool Lime Street Station.

The officer was then seen loading the women's suitcases into the back of his vehicle. Marius said he was "shocked" as he saw the two women get into the police car before it drove off.

The taxi driver said he thought what the policeman did was "naughty" but was "curious" to hear the circumstances behind what happened.

He told The ECHO: "I was just arriving at the station to park, I spend most of my time working around the station. He came and stopped there, switched the lights on.

"He could have gone into the station if he didn't want anybody to see him. When I saw it I said 'oh my gosh, this is not right, it's not fair, it's naughty'.

"I'm curious as to why they think they can do that."

When contacted by The ECHO, Merseyside Police said they had not received a complaint regarding the CCTV footage.

A spokesperson said: “No complaint has been made in relation to this video, but if a complaint were to be made by the taxi driver or anyone else we would of course investigate. Information on how to make a complaint can be found here: Complaints | Merseyside Police."
