Police are appealing for information following the assault and attempted robbery of a 15-year-old boy in the Onthank area.
The incident happened around 5pm on Monday.
The victim was shocked but unhurt, and officers are looking to trace two men.
Detective Sergeant Steven Gray of Ayrshire CID said: “We are following a positive line of enquiry in relation to this incident.
“Our enquiries so far have revealed that the two men have been in a small van and have possibly threatened other members of the public in the area to obtain goods.
"We would like to hear from you if these men approached you. We are not aware that anyone has been injured.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting 3889 of Monday, 1 May, 2023.”
