Police appeal as man 'comes off his bike' and suffers injuries

Lancashire Police are appealing for "anyone with information" to come forward after a man came off his bike and suffered injuries.

Yesterday paramedics were called to Sugar Stubbs Lane in Banks at 11.59am. The air ambulance was scrambled to the playing fields of King George V Sixth Form College, to assist.

Officers had to step in when a group of children playing football refused to move to allow the air ambulance to land. Police then attended to keep the playing fields clear while the air ambulance landed to help the cyclist, who is believed to have suffered a medical episode.

Crews were able to assist the cyclist and a medic accompanied them to Southport Hospital in a road ambulance. The air ambulance departed by around 2.30pm and police have said that the man is in a "stable condition."

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses and dashboard-mounted camera footage after a cyclist came off his bike and suffered injuries. We were called at around 12:10 yesterday (Monday 13th February 2023) to a report of an incident on Southport New Road, near the junction of Sugar Stubbs Lane.

"The man is currently at Southport Hospital in a stable condition. We are appealing for information following this incident. Anyone with information can call 101 quoting log 533 February 13."
