Police appeal after woman sexually assaulted at Euston Underground station

British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted at Euston Underground Station.

The incident happened at 4.36am on Saturday, February 4 at the central London station.

Officers have released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to following the attack.

The man in the images “may have information” that could help investigators, BTP said on Wednesday.

No further information about the incident has been provided.

Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40.

In both cases, quote reference number 73 of 04/02/23.

Alternatively, anyone with information can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

There has been an 81 per cent increase in reported sexual harassment on public transport in London, the vast majority targeted at women and schoolgirls.

Latest figures from Transport for London show crime is up eight per cent on the pre-Covid average despite 21 per cent fewer passengers.

A total of 17,923 crimes on TfL services were recorded by police between April and September last year, up eight per cent on the 16,544 crimes averaged over the same period in the three years up to and including 2019.

Passengers were urged to help fellow travellers they see suffering sexual harassment on the Tube or bus in a major campaign launched in January.

A poster and social media campaign advised them to attempt to cause a distraction by asking the victim “What’s the next stop?”, or “Do you have the time?”

Detective Chief Inspector Nia Mellor, of British Transport Police, previously told the Standard: “Everyone has a part to play in driving out this unacceptable behaviour, and small actions such as offering someone your seat if you notice them looking uncomfortable, or reporting an incident to us can make an enormous difference.

“Your reports provide us with crucial information which helps us build a picture of what’s happening on the network so we can identify crime hotspots, deploy patrols to catch offenders, and crucially bring them to justice.”
