Police appeal after escaped horses wander outside Downe Hospital

Police have successfully retrieved four horses that escaped from their enclosure and were spotted by motorists running around in Co Down.

They were spotted outside Downe Hospital, Downpatrick in the early hours of Monday morning.

Police Newry, Mourne and Down responded to reports of the escaped horses and rushed to secure roads around the hospital.

Officers successfully rounded up four horses into a field on the Ardglass Road.

Police are now appealing for the owner to come forward or for information from the public to help retrieve them and take them to safety.

Police said: "In-between calls for service tonight we found 4 horses wandering near the Downe Hospital. If you know who owns them they were ushered into a nearby field on the Ardglass Road."
