Officers are appealing for witnesses after a beloved family dog was stolen in broad daylight from a popular park in County Durham.
Durham Constabulary was called following an incident at West Park in Newton Aycliffe on Friday, July 29, that happened between 4pm and 4.30pm. The force said during this incident a black dog named Dexter was stolen from its owner near the footbridge to Honister Place.
Police said the suspect is described as a local, white man, who is skinny, in his 30s, and had a beard, and was accompanied by two women in their 20s. He may have left Honister Place in a white van immediately after the incident.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information on the incident to get in touch. A spokesman for Newton Aycliffe Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident occurring at West Park, Newton Aycliffe (the Boating Lake) on Friday 29th July 2022 between 16:00 and 16:30hrs. This has happened near the footbridge to Honister Place.
"Of significance, during this incident, a black dog named Dexter has been stolen from the owner. The suspect is described as local, white male, who is skinny, in his 30s and had a beard, and accompanied by two females in their 20s. He may have left Honister Place in a white van immediately after the incident.
