Police and forensic squads descend on Rutherglen attempted murder scene as man fights for life

Police and forensics officers have descended on Rutherglen following a murder bid that has left one man fighting for his life.

Glasgow Live previously reported that officers were called to the town's Greenhill Road at around 3pm on Sunday.

At the scene they found a 40-year-old man seriously injured following what they describe as a 'serious assault'.

The man was rushed to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medics say he is in a critical but stable condition.

On Monday afternoon Lanarkshire Police Division confirmed that they were treating the incident as attempted murder.

Images and video footage from the scene show four police vehicles parked outside a block of flats on Greenhill Road.

Several uniformed cops are seen patrolling what appears to be just one building.

Police tape has been placed down between two black fences that guard the building's front garden.

Beyond the tape are a couple of steps that lead to the grey main door.

Two men in hazmat suits are spotted entering and leaving the property, as are suited officers wearing protective coverings on their shoes.

Towards the back of the property, one other officer is seen patrolling the door.

Greenhill Road is largely residential and connects two of the main routes running through the town: Mill Street and Stonelaw Road.

At this stage officers do 'not know the motive' for the attack and urge locals with any information that might help to come forward.

"I am appealing to the local community to get in touch with us with any information they have, no matter how insignificant it might seem, please pass it on.

"We do not know the motive for this attack and it’s imperative we trace whoever is responsible for this crime.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1944 of June 12.

"Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can give information anonymously."
