Police say there has been a rise in the number of weapons and banned items being brought into Adelaide Airport by passengers over the past six months, issuing a warning to travellers.
Australian Federal Police (AFP) Sergeant Paul Everingham said 35 credit card knives — knives concealed in credit cards — were found at departure screening points at the airport since November last year.
Sergeant Everingham said ammunition, knuckle dusters, spud guns, gel blasters and knives have also been confiscated from passengers in the past six months.
"The AFP will have zero tolerance with these items when they're discovered in the terminals," Mr Everingham said.
"Regardless of its configuration, it is an offence to carry a knife in a public place, including in the airport and on planes," he said.
People carrying prohibited items at an airport can be fined $2,500 or face six months in prison.
Sergeant Everingham said the AFP would increase K-9 patrols and its ability to respond to incidents at the airport over the holiday and events period.
He said travellers should expect delays at the airport with school holidays, AFL Gather Round and the LIV Golf tournament taking place at similar times.
"We ask that people be patient both with their fellow travellers and also with the staff here at the airport."
"The AFP will have zero-tolerance for any unruly or criminal behaviour."
The AFP said 14 people had been charged with offences at Adelaide Airport since November, including for intoxicated or offensive behaviour, public disturbance and assault to possessing prohibited items and theft.
