As the pattern has previously been established, Starter Pokémon are taking the feature spots in these 7-star Tera Raid events. After Decidueye’s event wrapped up last weekend, Samurott is on its way, running from March 31 to April 2 and then April 7 to April 9. Samurott is stepping a little outside of its comfort zone for this one, running with Bug as its Tera-type, so there are a lot of possibilities.
We’ll run you through some potential movesets Samurott can run, and pitch some counters so you can prepare for the event.
7-Star Samurott moveset – Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
Despite being a single-type Pokémon, Samurott has a surprisingly wide movepool. The Bug Tera-typing makes Megahorn a near-certainty, and Aqua Cutter seems like a solid Water-type move for it to run, but other than that, we’re having to take a bit of a stab in the dark.
Since it doesn’t have the best stats, we can expect something like Swords Dance to be on the table, raiding its attack, and potentially even Focus Energy, to make critical hits more likely. Here’s what we think is most likely:
The Unrivaled Samurott – Level 100
- Nature – Impish
- Ability – Shell Armor
- Item – None
- Tera type – Bug
- Potential moveset – Focus Energy, Megahorn, Aqua Cutter, Night Slash, Slash, Sacred Sword, Sword Dance, Screech
Perrserker – 7-star Samurott counters
If Samurott does run a set that relies on critical hits, then Perrseker’s Battle Armor ability counters that, disabling crits entirely. While it isn’t the best offensively, it could work as part of a well-constructed team, with a number of great support moves, using its defenses to stay on the field.
Perrserker – Level 100
- Nature – Impish
- Ability – Battle Armor
- Item – Shell Bell
- Tera type – Water
- Potential moveset – Charm, Screech, Taunt, Crunch, Swords Dance, Iron Defense
Corviknight – 7-star Samurott counters
Thinking more offensively, Corviknight’s Flying-type moves can really put the hurt on the Bug-type Samurott, while not being weak to any of Samurott’s likely moves. Mirror Armor will prevent any stat drops, and if that still isn’t enough, then Bulk Up can always help out.
Corviknight – Level 100
- Nature – Impish
- Ability – Mirror Armor
- Item – Shell Bell
- Tera type – Flying
- Potential moveset – Taunt, Bulk Up, Reflect, Drill Peck, Iron Defense
Gyarados – 7-star Samurott counters
Intimidate is always a useful ability against physical attacks like Samurott, giving a little bit of an edge, even if it gets wiped out pretty quick. Its typing is great defensively, although you’ll need to Terastalize before you can really start dishing out the damage with Tera Blast. You do have the option to run Moxie if you’re trying to solo the raid though, attacking your allies to boost yourself.
Gyarados – Level 100
- Nature – Impish
- Ability – Intimidate or Moxie
- Item – Shell Bell
- Tera type – Flying
- Potential moveset – Dragon Dance, Tera Blast, Waterfall, Thunder Wave
Walking Wake – 7-star Samurott counters
The new kid on the block is good against Samurott both offensively and defensively. Setting up sunny weather is the way to go for this fight, as its signature move, Hydro Steam, is boosted by it.
Walking Wake – Level 100
- Nature – Bold
- Ability – Protosynthesis
- Item – Shell Bell
- Tera type – Water
- Potential moveset – Sunny Day, Hydro Steam, Flamethrower, Breaking Swipe, Noble Roar
