Pokemon Happy Meal returns to McDonald's featuring 90s childhood favourites

Pokémon Happy Meals are returning to McDonald's, featuring classic characters that debuted in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Happy Meals are a type of kids' meal sold at the fast food giant that usually contain a small toy or book to entertain children. There have been countless varieties of Happy Meals sold since their introduction in 1979, featuring a range of iconic characters.

One in particular that has proved very popular amongst children and their parents alike is the Pokémon Happy Meal with it coming in a special yellow box with a Pikachu design on it.

Inside, there is a packet of trading cards designed to look like the original ones sold in the 1990s — which will appeal to many parents who take their children to the fast food restaurant. Also included is a sticker set, which features many classic 90s and 2000s characters such as Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur.

The Facebook page, Newfoodsuk, spotted the Happy Meal and was quick to share the news with others. They wrote: "Pokémon Happy Meals are back at McDonald's. Pokémon fans will absolutely love this Happy Meal!"

The post has since received more than 1,000 likes and over 2,300 comments. McDonald's and Pokémon fans alike were quick to share their thoughts on the tie-in.

One wrote: "We went today and my daughter was over the moon with her Pokémon cards did not ever care about the happy meal first time ever ha ha".

"The amount of people that have asked for a happy meal while I've been on shift purely for Pokémon," a second user revealed.

"How cute is the box," shared a third, while a fourth echoed: "I just want the box".
