Pokémon GO Invites You to Relax with the Slumbering Sands Event

Time to chillax. (Credit: Niantic)

There's been a lot of things happening in Pokémon GO. This time around all trainers are invited to take a step back and chill with the Slumbering Sands event. It starts June 7 at 10:00 a.m. (local time) and run until June 12 at 8:00 p.m. (local time).

During this event, new costumed Pokémon are going to appear which include Slakoth wearing a visor, Vigoroth wearing a visor, Slaking wearing a visor. Those lucky enough may even get to encounter a Shiny version. That's not all since for the first time in the game, there's a possibility to encounter Shiny Komala, so start crossing those fingers.

Of course with every event, trainers are clearly looking forward to the bonus. In this one, it's not much but it's still good enough. That's because the event bonus is 2× XP for catching Pokémon. This means it's a good time to go out an level up.

Here are some of the other things trainers can look forward to during the Slumbering Sands event:

  • These Pokémon appear more frequently in the wild:
    • Psyduck
    • Slowpoke
    • Drowzee
    • Mareep
    • Slakoth wearing a visor
    • Oranguru
    • Sandygast
  • There's also the possibility to encounter:
    • Munna
    • Komala
  • A chance of a surprise encounter with event-themed Pokémon when taking a snapshot during the event.
  • Complete the Collection Challenge to receive Stardust, XP, and an encounter with Komala.
  • Be on the lookout for Showcases at different PokéStops where trainers can enter event-themed Pokémon.

Field Research

There are event-themed Field Research tasks available and those who complete then get to encounter these Pokémon:

  • Psyduck
  • Drowzee
  • Mareep
  • Slakoth wearing a visor
  • Oranguru
  • Sandygast
  • Komala

By the way, Slakoth wearing a visor and Komala encountered via Field Research have a greater chance of being Shiny Pokémon than when found in the wild.

Timed Research

Traines who connect a Pokémon GO Plus+ can get access to Timed Research. Rewards include Stardust and encounters with:

  • Snorlax wearing a nightcap
  • Slakoth wearing a visor
  • Komala
  • Paid Timed Research is also available for $2. Rewards include:
  • Komala Backpack avatar item
  • Encounters with Komala and Slakoth wearing a visor
  • Stardust
  • XP
  • Silver Pinap Berries
