How to make a party in Pokemon GO’s new Party Play update is a straightforward process, which is nice, considering you’ll need to do it frequently if you want to get some handy multiplayer bonuses. Joining up in Party Play makes Pokemon GO raids easier thanks to a hefty power bonus that pumps up your charged attacks, and there’s even a set of Welcome Party research tasks that reward you with chances to encounter rare Pokemon and quite a lot of XP.
This guide explains how to create a party and join a party in Pokemon GO and what requirements you need to meet before you can start.
Pokemon GO: How to join a party
To join or create a party, you need to be at least level 15, and that’s the only requirement. You don’t even need to be friends with the people you join. You just need to be “within a similar distance.” That’s a bit vague, admittedly, but it looks like the distance is roughly the same as it is to spin a PokeStop.
After that, here’s what you need to do:
- Boot Pokémon GO, and open your trainer menu by tapping your avatar in the bottom left corner
- Tap the “party” tab at the top of the screen next to “Me” and “Friends” to open the party screen
- Tap “Join Party” to proceed
- Scan the party’s QR code from the host’s phone or enter the numerical party code. You can switch between the options at the top of the screen
And that’s all it takes. Most parties will stay together for an hour before you have to create another party again, though some will last longer during special events.
Pokemon GO: How to create a party
Creating a party involves essentially the same process, and you also have to be at least level 15 or higher.
- Boot Pokémon GO, and open your trainer menu by tapping your avatar in the bottom left corner
- Tap the “party” tab at the top of the screen next to “Me” and “Friends” to open the party screen
- Tap “Create” to proceed
- You can choose to generate a numerical code or a QR code, which you then send to your prospective party members so they can follow the “join” steps and get started
