PointsBet Sportsbook has ended its relationship with Drew Brees, the company said in a statement Thursday.
The decision comes exactly a week after Brees was named an assistant football coach at his alma mater Purdue. PointsBet said the decision will allow the company to uphold its commitment to priorities involving responsible gaming and the integrity of legal sports betting.
Brees was an ambassador for PointsBet, drawing massive attention to the company earlier this month for a social promo that backfired. It involved a video that faked Brees getting struck by lightning, and ended with a lot of jokes about what a bad idea it was.
Bad promos involving Brees won’t be an issue any more.

PointsBet’s announcement ends speculation over whether Brees would be allowed to continue in his role with a sportsbook while also roaming the sideline of at least one college game.
Purdue is a 14-point underdog to No. 17 LSU in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on Jan. 2.
