The truckers planning to bring Dublin to a standstill tomorrow have been slammed as "misguided" by a Fine Gael Councillor.
The People of Ireland Against Fuel Prices previously warned that the entire city will be on "complete lockdown" during Monday's protest.
Truckers say they will come prepared on Monday as the protest could last "over a week" or until their demands are met.
And they claim the demonstration will be "one for the history books" after causing traffic chaos on motorways and city centre streets since last November.
The truck drivers say they are ready to wreck havoc until the Government do something to fix rising fuel costs.
Councillor David McManus slammed the truckers for the protest despite the Government's measures to tackle inflation.
He said: "No group should ever threaten to bring our capital city to a standstill. Any protest must be carefully managed to minimise disruption for the ordinary public however this group is intent on causing maximum disruption.
"Government have already cut excise by 20c on petrol and 15c on diesel, reduced electricity bills by €200 and increased fuel allowance for the most vulnerable in our society. Further measures are being actively examined right now by Government.
"We already have one of the lowest VAT rates in Europe on energy and fuel. The Irish people know that fuel prices are set by global factors, including the Russian war on Ukraine."
Cllr McManus added: "Last time these protesters brought Dublin to a standstill, we saw the sick and vulnerable missing their vaccine and hospital appointments - they were collateral damage. Any attempt to bring Dublin to a standstill is misguided and pointless."
