Without their franchise quarterback playing the Cleveland Browns offense never stood a chance against the Ravens Sunday. It was clear that the team and coaches believed that Deshaun Watson would play but game day came around and he wasn’t able to perform at a high level. Kevin Stefanski would later say he was medically cleared but he hadn’t been to throw passes over 10 yards all week.
This begs the question, why did the team think he would be ready Sunday? In the end, they had to start rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson and the game plan for him was awful and resulted in the worst offensive performance of the season. This is indeed only one game but it brings to light many questions about the offense. We haven’t seen the offensive evolution we were promised, no RPOs or zone reads to capitalize on their mobile quarterback’s skill set. There is still plenty of time to fix it but the question is are the Browns willing to truly change their offensive scheme?
