Prime Minster Narendra Modi ticked all the right boxes with his Independence Day attire on Wednesday, much like he did with his pink turban in 2017. With Modi’s 2018 Independence Day attire once again reminded us that he claims the spotlight every time he steps out wearing something other than a well-tailored kurta.
While most leaders throw on a standard kurta pyjama and call it a day, Prime Minister Modi takes things a step further. He definitely knows how to put a standout August 15 outfit together: A monochromatic day-time festive ensemble with a few colourful accents, a bit of pattern, and a perfect fit.
On Wednesday, he swapped his typical white short-sleeve kurta for a crisp full-sleeve kurta pyjama set and finished the thing off with a complementary stole and a vibrant saffron and red turban, once again proving he knows his way around bright Bandhini print headgear.
Modi’s latest Independence Day attire is a refreshing way of dressing like a prime minister and a masterclass in festive Indian dressing. Moreover, he once again showed that he’s a man who knows what looks best on him — and dresses accordingly. With the restrictive dress code of a political leader (head-to-toe white), it’s good to see a fashion-forward Indian prime minister, who isn’t afraid to rock the boat occasionally. PM Modi’s effortless Independence Day attire has always had a sense of swagger, and his latest one saffron-infused apparel is no different. It’s also a far more approachable get-up than going monochrome.
