Staff at a plush Edinburgh hotel and restaurant were forced to apologise to a customer who slammed a 'terrible' dining experience.
The guest left a scathing review of their meal at Hotel Du Vin & Bistro in which they claim they were served 'burnt black potatoes' as part of a 'tasteless and basic' dinner, one that had been booked in a private dining room for a special celebration.
In response to the one out of five star feedback left on Trip Advisor, hotel management invited the diner back to the restaurant to give Hotel Du Vin a second chance.

Following their visit earlier this month, the guest fumed in a review titled 'terrible meal' by venting: "Our group of five were so disappointed with our dinner. Chicken Normandy was basically grilled chicken. No sauce. No seasoning. With a side salad of leaves. No dressing.
"I ordered Pomme Lyonnaise which should have been sliced potatoes with onion baked in oven. What came was a bowl of burnt black potatoes. No onions. Again no seasoning.
"Was a terrible meal and not what you expect from the menu description or the prices.
"So disappointing especially as I'd planned to book the private dining room for a special celebration. Really Chef, you have to do better. Tasteless and basic."
On top of the negative review of the meal, the diner also said staff were disinterested when they asked for an explanation, adding: "I complained about my meal to the waitress who just shrugged and didn't even suggest taking money off the bill.
"Pity as bar staff were so lovely."
The general manager of the hotel responded promptly to offer their apologies and ask for another opportunity to 'provide the best dining experience'.
They replied: "Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts.
"I am terribly sorry to hear we failed to deliver our usual standards - I would be delighted to invite you back and try to regain your faith in our ability as a team to provide the best dining experience.
"I hope to hear from you very soon."
Despite the negative review, Hotel Du Vin & Bistro, on Bristo Place, is considered one of the very best hotels in Edinburgh, making it's way into the city's top 25, according to Trip Advisor.
From feedback given, it scores an average rating of 4.5 out of 5.
