Plush Edinburgh hotel 'sorry' after English tourist hits out at 'low standards'

An English tourist has called an Edinburgh hotel the “worst stay ever” after claiming to pay premium prices only to be disappointed by the standards of the hotel.

During a couples getaway to the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa near Haymarket, the guest paid more than £600 for a two night stay. However, the trip did not live up to expectations.

“We feel so very disappointed and upset by the standards of this hotel,” the review began.

“Our main reason for staying was because of the spa and I felt like crying when we found out we had to pay another £70 on top of our £600.”

For the price they paid, the guests expected top tier breakfast, bar service, and amenities, but were sorely disappointed.

“Our shower had a faulty showerhead, the breakfast was basic and service slow , the bar had poor service. What a let down. I recommend anyone choose any other Edinburgh hotel and seriously avoid this one,” the review concluded.

The hotel responded to the scathing one star review on TripAdvisor with apologies and regret.

“I'm sorry to hear that there was an issue with the showerhead within your room and that the service in our breakfast and bar was a let down whilst you were here,” the manager at the Sheraton Hotel & Spa wrote.

“I would like to hear if you have any specific feedback regarding our breakfast and bar to ensure we are delivering the best quality service to all of our guests consistently. I really would hope you would consider a return stay with us.”

The manager also said he would have the showerhead in the guest’s room fixed and addressed.

The Sheraton has an average 4.5 star rating out of more than 3,500 reviews on TripAdvisor.
