"Plus-sized travellers should be given free plane seats - it's discriminatory otherwise"

A woman is calling for new rules which would see plus-sized travellers being allocated free plane seats to accommodate their body shape. TikToker Jaebaeofficial feels so passionately about the subject she has now launched a petition, which has already gained thousands of signatures.

Describing her mid-air traumas she was once forced to sit in a single seat with an unadjustable armchair. The travel influencer was left with bruising after the trip.

She said: “So you wanna hear my hot take on plus size travel and why I think every plus size traveller should get a free second and even third seat on an aeroplane? Let's just state facts.

“Plus size travellers need more space, and many people agree that plane seats are too small even for the average size person. As a plus size traveller myself, I know how uncomfortable and unsafe it can be to squeeze into a tiny aeroplane seat.”

She's calling for airlines to refund passengers if they are forced to pay for extra seats to accommodate their size. The travel vlogger realised from a young age that flying wasn’t going to be easy. In her petition, she stated that ‘I kind of knew that planes were not built for people like me by the time I was 12’.

"People with smaller bodies get to pay one fare to get to their destination and we have to pay two fares, even though we’re getting the same experience. If anything, our experiences are a little more challenging," Chaney told CNN Travel.

She and her partner, have had to endure many, offensive situations on flights which have affected her emotionally and she’s documented them.

"During a flight from Pasco to Denver, my fiancé was subjected to hateful comments, disapproving looks and even refusal to sit next to them, amounting to discrimination.

"Similarly, on another flight, I was forced to occupy only one seat with immovable armrests which cause me pain and bruises."
