A plumber from Wallasey said he was gobsmacked when he pulled up to work in a celebrity mansion.

Steve Lewis, 54, has worked for footballers and a variety of celebrities up and down the country over the years.

Steve who is based in Wallasey said: "We get sent to loads of prestigious houses and people. I've worked for premier league footballers, actors and even famous musicians. Most of them live in mansions.

"I was on a job down in London by St. James' Park, I was gobsmacked by how expensive the house was."

Steve started his company Heating and Technical Services in 2009 after his old boss retired. Steve took on three other people and has since grown the business with the help of his wife, Alison Lewis.

He's now a semi-finalist in the Screwfix Top Tradesman 2022 competition after being nominated by his daughter Hannah Lewis, 28, who started working for the company six months ago.

The winner of the competition will receive a trade bundle worth £20,000. It includes new technology, tools and training which is hopeful to use to recruit more apprenticeships.

Steve said: "The competition would allow for customers to have better services with new tools and to get our new apprentices their very first tool box. I'm excited to be honest. I am hopefully confident, but you never know, I don't know how many is in the final there could be hundreds."

After being nominated by his daughter he has reached the semi-final. He had to submit a 60-second video about himself to qualify for the final and will find out next week if he was successful.

Steve is now hopeful after all his hard work his daughter will find the love of the trade and follow in his footsteps.

The dad of two said: "Hannah is in the middle of her nebosh qualification. Fingers crossed she will fill in my shoes. I t would be nice wouldn't it.

"You spend so long setting the company up, it would be nice to pass it on to someone for your customers."

The shortlisted candidates will participate in a one-day final event at Screwfix LIVE on September 23.
