An investigation is under way after a Gateshead family were burgled with thieves taking a number of sentimental items.
It was reported that a male offender entered an address on Silverdale Drive, in the Winlaton area, after smashing the patio door sometime between between 4.10pm and 4.40pm on July 7.
Once inside, the man stole jewellery, a number of memorial £5 coins and a medal belonging to the victim’s father, commemorating his long service while working on ship.

Police are now appealing to the public for help and have also issued images of the stolen items in the hopes anyone who comes across them, or has information about their whereabouts can get in touch.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Anyone with information is asked to contact police using the Tell us Something page, quoting log Crime number - 079303L/22."
