KOCHI: A petition has been filed before the Kerala high court to declare the two-day strike called by the trade unions from Monday as unconstitutional.
The petition filed by S Chandrachoodan Nair of Thiruvananthapuram will be considered by a division bench led by the chief justice on Monday.
Through the plea, the petitioner is also seeking a court directive to ensure that government employees are attending offices on the days of strike. The state government should be asked to take disciplinary action against the government officials who abstain from work on the days of strike. The court should also order for strict action against those who obstruct vehicle movement during the strike, the petitioner has demanded.
It is pointed out in the plea that the government has not declared dies non on March 28th and 29th. The stance of the government is as though it is supporting the employees and teachers who are engaging in strikes against the union government, the petitioner has alleged. At the same time, strict action is being taken against those who engage in strikes against the state government, the petition said.
If the government employees fail to turn up at their offices in view of the strike, it would cause undue hardship to the common man, the petitioner contends. The government should be directed not to grant paid leaves for those employees who take part in the strike, stated the plea.
