A school has issued a plea for support from the community in a bid to replace 'temporary' classrooms that were actually installed 40 years ago.
WISE Academies, which run Adderlane Academy in Prudhoe, has submitted plans to Northumberland County Council that will see the school's out-of-date mobile classrooms finally replaced.
The school has said the classrooms are no longer "fit for purpose" for "a number of reasons", and has asked neighbours to submit comments of support for the school's plans.

A statement posted on the school's Facebook page read: "At Adderlane we are incredibly proud of the main school building in its beautiful grounds. We as a school work very hard to ensure that Adderlane is an attractive place to attend.
"As you may know we have submitted a planning application to replace the mobile classrooms. These classrooms were only intended for temporary use but 40 years later they are still here, some of you may have even been educated in these!
"As you can imagine, the mobile classrooms are no longer fit for purpose for a number of reasons and must be replaced. I can't tell you how excited we are to share the plans for the extension to the school."
The plans feature new classrooms as well as a new entrance to the school. Staff and students will also benefit from a new central area inside the main building, which will be used for small group work and a library. The changes will also allow full access to the school for wheelchair users.
Coun Gordon Stewart, who represents Prudhoe South on Northumberland County Council, is a governor at the school and backs the changes.
He said: "This substantial investment will not just benefit the staff and children but the wider Prudhoe community, of which Adderlane is a major part. This is a village school within a big town, offering great nurturing and educational provision."
A number of comments in support of the plans have already been submitted on the council's planning portal, with some residents commenting how they remembered being educated in the mobile classrooms themselves in years gone by.
The school was previously in special measures, but in 2019 was rated 'Good' by Ofsted.
