PlayStation VR2 release date announced – and it'll set you back more than a PS5

After months of teasing the PlayStation VR2, Sony has finally confirmed the price and release date for its second-gen VR headset. The PS VR2 is launching on February 22, 2023, and surprisingly, pre-orders are opening in just under two weeks, on Tuesday, November 15. Which isn't a lot of time to save, given the price of the hardware.

We're looking at £529.99 / $549.99 / AU$879.95 which gets you the headset, two controllers, and a pair of stereo headphones. There's also a bundle available which throws in a code for the digital edition of Horizon Call of the Mountain, for £ £569.9 / $599.99 / AU$959.95. The cost of the base headset is significantly more than the PS5 console itself, which may have some players balking at the price.

You'll need to buy PlayStation VR2 Sense controller charging station separately, which is a bit frustrating, and adds to the total cost. You can pick one up for £39.99 / $49.99 / AU$79.95.

Pre-orders will open in U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg exclusively on the PlayStation's online store initially.

Sony detailed the PlayStation VR2 specs in a blog post so you can have a full picture of what you're getting for your money. The headset contains an OLED panel, just like the first model, with refresh rates of 90Hz/ 120Hz. The panel resolution is 2000 x 2040 per eye, and we'll be getting a 110 degree field of view (FoV).

As touched on above, there's no speaker in the headset. And while it does come with a stereo headset, you might -want to use your own. It's not ideal, but this echoes the decision Sony made with the first-gen PSVR, so it's not a total shock.
