PlayStation State of Play live updates — Metal Gear Solid Delta, MindsEye, and more announced

PlayStation logo on a phone in front of a State of Play logo.

Sony's big State of Play just wrapped with 45 minutes of bangers. PlayStation fans are eating good in 2025, and possibly well into 2026, with exciting experiences out of Housemarque, Newowiz, Konami, Capcom, and more.

On the mind of many is an update on the progress of Metal Gear Solid Delta, which has its sights set on an August 28 release. In the meantime we'll have Lies of P: Overture to sink our teeth into — a whole new DLC that invites you into the past to witness a prequel of its mainline story.

And that's not all. The sneaky third-person action-adventure game in Hell is Us is set to steal the limelight this year. The Unreal Engine 5 game is bound for a September 4 debut on PS5. Plus, Digimon Story: Time Stranger is a new monster-based JRPG that's reminiscent of 1999's Digimon World. Color me excited.

If that wasn't enough, there's plenty more to get hyped for, including remasters for Days Gone and Onimusha 2, new horror games in The Midnight Walk and Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic, as well as a new story add-on for Monster Hunter: Wilds. Get in and see what everyone's talking about.

State of Play February 2025 - Start time and where to watch

The show starts at 2 PM Pacific / 5 pm Eastern / 10 pm UK and will air on PlayStation's YouTube and Twitch channels.

What we expect to see

Sony didn't provide any hints of what games we might expect to see saying, "The show celebrates a creative and unique selection of exciting games from studios around the world."

However, there have been hints that we'll see a new Death Stranding 2 trailer, and possibly news about where the God of War will rampage next.

Tom's Guide will be keeping an eye on the latest State of Play and updating with everything Sony announces right here so stay tuned.

How to watch the State of Play

The PlayStation State of Play will be streaming on both the official PlayStation Twitch channel as well as the official PlayStation YouTube channel.

We've linked the YouTube stream above and you can find the Twitch channel here.

What games might we see?

PlayStation has not officially revealed or hinted at what games might get showcased during the State of Play but we have an idea of a few games we might see thanks to rumors and leaks.

  • Bungie's 'Gummy Bears' game
  • Death Stranding 2
  • Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves
  • God Of War - goes back to Greece?
  • Hell is Us
  • Hellblade 2 PS5 Port
  • Lost Soul Aside
  • Marathon
  • Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
  • Resident Evil 5 & 6 remasters
  • Sonic Racing CrossWorlds
  • XDEV game

Elden Ring: Nightreign

Earlier today, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware officially announced that Elden Ring Nightreign will arrive on May 30, 2025.

For Elden Ring fans this looks awesome and hopefully Sony will show off more during the State of Play

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater remake

Yes, Konami did announce a Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater remake a year ago, but a new trailer dropped recently with new gameplay and featuring Ape Escape.

We imagine Sony will highlight this game again even if we have to wait until August to get our hands on it.

The God of War goes home?

Different sets of rumors popped up this week regarding the future of the God of War franchise.

Both rumors center around Kratos returning to Greece. Tom Henderson mentioned in a podcast that sources told him a prequel of sorts is in the works with a younger Kratos back in Greece, possibly between the original trilogy and his Norse adventures.

The other rumor is that its a remaster of the older gamers for PS5.

Both are possible, but after the way Ragnarok ended and hints during both the Viking God of War games, I hope they go elsewhere.

Hope & Cope: Bloodborne

Fans of Bloodborne have been begging for a remake/remaster for years at this point.

Will it happen today? We doubt it, but expect the live chat across both Twitch and YouTube to be spammed with comments like, "BB remake!?!? when?????"

Look, it still exists and even at 30fps (the horror!) it's still good.

As Tom's Guide editor Rory Mellon said, "I've given up, replayed it last year as I've been waiting for a remaster and lost patience. Still so bloody good!"

Prediction: A Yakuza reminder

We already know that 'Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii' is launching next week on February 21, but State of Play is a great place to remind people to pick up or preorder a copy.

The game itself looks as delightful and madcap as any Yakuza game and we're sure will provide a bounty of surprising moments.

Will we see any hardware announcements?

It's highly doubtful that we'll see any hardware announcements.

However, there are two that we might see.

First, there are rumors that Sony has an Astro Bot PS5 Slim bundle in the works. It makes sense especially since Astro Bot hoovered up awards this year including the Tom's Guide pick for Game of the Year.

Second, and this is more of a wish, but perhaps Sony will announce more stock of the 30th Anniversary Collection that no one can keep on their shelves. I'm still trying to get my hands on one of the controllers. Fingers crossed.

Ghost of Yotei?

There is one game I, personally, am looking forward to this year and it's Sucker Punch's Tsushima sequel Ghost of Yotei.

I am so pumped for this and hope that today's State of Play announces anything about the game, but mostly I am looking for the release date.

Ghost of Tsushima was an elegant, beautiful experience when I finally got to play it so much so that I have both a PS4 version and upgraded to the PS5 version when that came out.

Here's hoping.

Speculation: Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

The EVO fighting game tournament is expected to have its first ever awards show this weekend. There are 22 different categories and were sure announcements and trailers for fighting games.

Sony owns EVO, and it's expected that details for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will be revealed at the award show.

We wouldn't be surprised if a teaser trailer for Fatal Fury or EVO shows up during the State of Play.

The arrival of Xbox?

Microsoft finally appears to be leaning into the promise of releasing Xbox games across multiple consoles.

We know Forza Horizon 5 is coming to the PS5 this year, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is coming to PS5 "this Spring."

The question now is, what else is coming? Will we see trailers for other Xbox games today? I think yes, most likely Forza and Indiana, but maybe something like Hellblade 2 or, my dream, the Halo Master Chief Collection.

Death Stranding 2 likely makes an appearance

We're not going out on too much of a limb here but we expect Hideo Kojima's 'Death Stranding 2' to make an appearance during State of Play.

I assume a release date announcement is right around the corner, if not today, then in March when Kojima presents a DS2 panel during SXSW 2025.

Kojima did something similar before the original Death Stranding launch and had actors from the game on stage with him for the presentation at the Tribeca film festival.

News of the Devil May Cry looking Lost Souls Aside?

While a massive gameplay trailer dropped for Lost Soul Aside at the end of 2025, we might get more information about this Chinese-made game that looks inspired by Devil May Cry.

The gameplay trailer only stated that Lost Soul Aside was coming in 2025 for PS5 and PC.

However, yesterday, the developer posted a rather cryptic tweet that read, "The answer is <>."

Presumably this yes was about today's State of Play as the tweet prior to that one is a repost of the PlayStation's State of Play announcement.

Signs point to yes, but we're an hour away from finding out.

Time Check — 30 minutes out!

We're now 30 minutes away from the start of PlayStation's February 2025 State of Play.

You can head over to the PlayStation YouTube channel (or watch the embedded video above) or check out the PlayStation Twitch channel.

Of course, nothing is happening on the video yet but there is a countdown and you can get a browser notification.

As with most YouTube livestreams there is a chat room. Save your sanity and ignore that.

Currently, we're seeing a lot of calls for GTA 6 (unlikely), Hollow Knight Silksong (also unlikely) and the Bloodborne fans are starting to trickle in.

The countdown begins

We're less than 10 minutes out and the music is going. Get ready.

Here we go

And it's off!

Monster Hunter Wilds

Sony's first State of Play for 2025 is opening up with a look Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds.

Check out our review which editor Tony Palanco called the best Monster Hunter in years.

Monster Hunter Wilds free update

Monster Hunter Wilds will be getting a free update when it releases on February 28 with a new monsters.

Capcom is also promising more updates to come.

Shinobi returns!

Get pumped for old-school Ninja action as Shinobi retunrs with the new Shinobi: Art of Vengeance coming August 29, 2025.

It looks like a classic 2D sidescroller.

Color us pumped!

Sonic Racers

There was speculation before the stream that a new Sonic Racers would be revealed and here it is.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is only up for pre-order and a closed beta later this month but it looks like fun.

We'll probably find out more in the coming weeks.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger

Digimon Story: Time Stranger wasn't a total surprise and it's giving off Kingdom Hearts vibes.

That could be fun in this Pokemon-esque game.

It looks like a continuation of previous Digimon Story titles that haven't had a new iteration since 2019.

Lost Soul Aside

As mentioned earlier, we got a look at some gameplay in December of 2024 but today's trailer gave us both a look at the story and more gameplay.

Crucially, we finally got a release date!

Lost Souls Aside is coming to PS5 starting May 30.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii demo

A demo is coming for the pirate Yakuza with a naval battle and melee combat to test out.

It's coming this week.

Dave The Diver adds a Yakuza

A new DLC for Dave the Diver staring Ichiban from Like a Dragon is coming soon. It adds a beat-em element and looks fun.

Splitgate 2 alpha

The Splitgate sequel is getting and the alpha starts in March.

It's a massive shooter and looks interesting.

Borderlands 4 gets a release date!

Well, well, well, Borderlands 4 is coming this year. Randy Pitchford announced that it will launch on September 23.

He also said that a spring State of Play will reveal more gameplay, combat and story. So that's something to look forward to.

WK25 - The Island

2K Games WK25 is getting an area called the Island which looks to function similar to a feature in the NBA2K games where you wander a world and can shop, upgrade your character or play mini games. I'm sure it'll have plenty of ads.

Split Faction coming March 6

Split Faction from the devs behind It Takes Two looks like a banger, though you'll need a buddy to play again.

It's also giving Ready Player One vibes, whose mileage may vary for you on whether or not that's a good thing.

Directive 8020

An original horror title from EA, Directive 8020 looks like a mix between Dead Space and Event Horizon.

Look, I'm excited and I want to see what this version of "The Substance" contains.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic

Another title in the Five Nights franchise is coming on June 13 this year.

It looks like classic Freddy's action and should continue the demonic story of possessed animatronics.

Hell is Us

New souls-like experience with horror elements announced in Hell is Us.

Lies of P: Overture

New expansion announced for Lies of P with new quests, characters, and weapons.

Dreams of Another

New indie game that defies modern shooters and takes an interesting approach to the art design with bubble-like cell shading. Definitely an interesting shooter for those looking to get a fresh twist on the age-old genre.

Days Gone: Remastered

Days Gone is getting a remaster and it's going to be coming to PS5 April 25, 2025. It collects the DLC and base game as well as new game modes for PS5 and PC later in the year.

Abiotic Factor

Abiotic Factor is hitting PS5 and game Catalog starting Summer 2025. It's a six player survival game with traps, monsters, and PS2 graphics.

Tides of Annihilation

Journey on an adventure into a new world with monsters and magic. With exciting hack and slash combat and mixed abilities, you'll take on incredible beasts in Tides of Annihilation.

Metal Edge

Metal Edge is Halo meets Call of Duty in this team-based arena shooter hitting PS5 on May 6th.

MindsEye

IO Interactive is back with another potential banger on its hands. This single player sci-fi narrative experience drops you into the shoes of a soldier with lost memories in a neo future America. It's led by ex-GTA producer Lesli Benzies and features loads of futuristic weapons and gear.

Saros

Taking visual inspiration from Returnal, Saros is a new experience out of Housemarque. It's set to launch in 2026 and will be optimized for PS5 Pro. Little else is known, other than that it's a single player experience set on a hostile shapeshifting planet with a menacing eclipse that's haunting the main player. More info will be unveiled later this year.
