What’s up, gamers? I hope you’re all having a great scary start to the Halloween season this year. This week is a bit quieter following all the games announced last week at the PlayStation State of Play and Xbox Showcase. Still, there’s plenty of info that has trickled out since, so let’s dive into it.
First, we’ve gotten confirmation a new Avatar: The Last Airbender game is in the works, which is promising to be the biggest game we’ve seen from the franchise. As console gamers know, PlayStation and Xbox suffered outages this week, preventing players from accessing their games or social features. And even more sad updates about Elon Musk‘s X (formerly known as Twitter).
So, let’s dive into all the big news from this week.
6. New Avatar: The Last Airbender RPG in the works
Taking tickets for this hype train, as Paramount Studios has confirmed that an Avatar: The Last Airbender game is in the works. Details are still scarce as it’s in early development, however IGN have confirmed that Saber Interactive will be the studio behind the game. Series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are confirmed to be collaborating with the game as well.
Saber Interactive just dropped Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 last month to solid acclaim. So, it’s safe to say that the game is in good hands.
It’s tough to say when the new game will be released, given how long it takes video games to develop nowadays. However, with a new Last Airbender movie set for October next year, we can probably expect to hear some news about the game by then.
Now, if only they could bring back the Legend of Korra game to help tide us over until then.
5. PSN & Xbox both suffer outages
Console warriors were on high alert this week as both Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox online services suffered outages.
These outages lasted a few hours and left plenty of gamers unable to play their games.
PlayStation’s outage hit this Tuesday and restricted players from accessing both single and multiplayer titles on their consoles. These outages lasted for more than eight hours before players could boot up some Fortnite and go back to click heads.
Xbox’s outages hit only a day later, affecting friends and social activity, cloud gaming and remote play, and more. What’s important to note here is that these outages impacted more than just Xbox console players; PC gamers and Game Pass were also hit by these outages.
While these outages are a small blip, they add to gamers’ anxiety about transitioning to digital-only gaming. With the announcement that the PS5 Pro would launch as a digital-only console, requiring gamers to buy a separate disk drive, outages like this in the future will only become more problematic.
4. New Starfield expansion drops to mixed reactions
Bethesda Studios just released its first DLC for Starfield this week, and it’s received some fairly mixed reactions.
Starfield: Shattered Space takes place on the mysterious planet Va’ruun’kai, the home planet of House Va’ruun. Your character is here to help unite the houses after a massive explosion has wiped out half of the world’s capital city. Oh, and most of these people are xenophobic cosmic snake worshippers. Have fun with that.
Some game critics were happy for the DLC here to feature a fleshed-out singular world compared to the main game, where planet exploration felt empty and tedious. However, many noted that at the end of the day, the game is just more Starfield. If you want more of that experience, it’s there.
However, it’s important to add that, with a $49.99 AUD price tag, a 15-hour side quest might not be enough to pick up right now, especially with the number of reported bugs the game is experiencing.
3. Elon Musk’s X is estimated to have lost 79% of its value
According to reports from major investment firm Fidelity, Elon Musk’s social media platform X has dropped to a low of $9.4 billion USD. That’s a steep drop from its previous valuation of $44 billion dollars USD, which is what Musk forked over when acquiring the platform.
It’s hard to say this is surprising, though. With advertisers pulling ads from the platform, X has struggled to find meaningful revenue streams. Musk hasn’t made a great case for advertisers to return, in part due to the lack of moderation on the site and with him telling them to go “fuck themselves” to their faces at a conference.
Masterful gambit, sir. Keen to see how this one plays out.
2. Hans Zimmer is scoring the next Dragon Age game
Developer Bioware announced this week that legendary composer Hans Zimmer, alongside co-collaborator Lorne Balfe, are the official composers for its next game, Dragon Age: The Veilgaurd.
This isn’t the first video game soundtrack the Dark Knight and Interstellar composer has scored. Most of us are all familiar with his soundtracks for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and FIFA 19.

1. Australian developer PlaySide Studio drops ‘Kill Knight’
Warning: This trailer has many bright flashes and quick edits, which may be a concern for those with epilepsy.
In local news, Australia’s own PlaySide Studios dropped its violent action shooter Kill Knight this week, and it’s a bloody good time.
In Kill Knight, you play the edgiest-looking demon knight banished to the Abyss. Donning some fresh, bloody armour, you mow down countless eldritch horrors gruesomely to clear the Abyss.
If you love games like Doom or Hades, you’re bound to have a blast with this one and find yourself playing the game until 3am for the next few nights.
