Sony has announced June’s selection of monthly games for PlayStation Plus subscribers, which include giant dinosaurs.
These games will be available from June 6 until July 3. This also acts as your final reminder to head on down to the PlayStation Store to grab May’s games before they disappear.
This month’s titles are Jurassic World Evolution 2, Trek to Yomi and NBA 2K23. All three are available to play on PS4 or PS5, because these were originally PS4 or cross-generation releases.
Are they any good? Let’s take a closer look.
PlayStation Plus Monthly June games reviewed
Jurassic World Evolution 2 was released in 2021 and involves you making your own Jurassic Park theme park. You can also drive around it in a jeep, just like the scenes from the original movie and the, well, less inspiring Jurassic World follow-ups.
The game achieved a 78% score on Metacritic, the average from 26 reviews. Worth a try if you like dinosaurs.
Trek to Yomi is even newer, having been released in 2022. It’s a samurai action game in which you view the scene from a fixed perspective, making it more simple to play than a full-on 3D title.
The most striking aspect of Trek to Yomi is that it’s in black and white. There’s no colour at all, evoking the look of classic samurai movies. It didn’t go down with reviewers quite as well as Jurassic World Evolution 2, though, achieving a 69% average score.
They criticised the game for its simple combat, but when Trek to Yomi is over in five or six hours, this is one game you might actually be able to finish in June.
NBA2K23 is June’s final PlayStation Plus Monthly game. You’re already going to know whether you want to play this one or not — it’s the latest edition of 2K Games’s basketball series, which has trundled on each year since 1999.
Reviews suggest this is largely a “more of the same” entry in the series. However, NBA2K23 still achieves a respectable score average of 78% on Metacritic, matching this month’s Jurassic World game.
The titles this trio replaces are GRID Legends, Chivalry II and Descenders, which you should add to your account now if any remotely appeal.
How PlayStation Plus Monthly games work
New to PlayStation Plus? These monthly games cycle towards the beginning of each month, and are available to all Plus subscribers, no matter the tier.
Once claimed, these games will be available to download and play as long as you have an active PlayStation Plus subscription.
As such, the monthly games are separate from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue, a Netflix-a-like library of games available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members.
