PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue titles for May include Red Dead Redemption 2

Sony has confirmed a fat stack of games coming to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue on May 21, headed up by Red Dead Redemption 2

Long-term PlayStation Plus subscribers may note this isn’t the first time Rockstar’s cowboy epic has come to the service, having been available from June to September 2022. It’s time to get back in the saddle.

Other titles coming to the PlayStation Plus Catalogue on May 21 include:

  • Cat Quest
  • Cat Quest II
  • Crime Boss: Rockay City (PS5 only)
  • Deceive Inc. (PS5 only)
  • Stranded: Alien Dawn
  • The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame
  • The Settlers: New Allies
  • The Sims 4 City Living
  • Watch Dogs

There are also a few new retro titles coming to the Classics collection, which is only available to subscribers of the top PlayStation Plus Premium tier. Here are those games:

  • 2Xtreme (PS1, 1996)
  • G-Police (PS1, 1997)
  • Worms Pinball (PS1, 1998)

Let’s take a closer look at some of the highlights.

This month’s unmissable pick is clearly Red Dead Redemption 2, which is in a tussle with Grand Theft Auto V for the title of the best Rockstar Games title ever.

You are Arthur Morgan, a gang member trying to get by in turn-of-the-century America. But this is the end of the 20th century, not the 21st. It’s a cinematic adventure full of great writing, subtle details and believable characters.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is no snack, though, and takes upwards of 50 hours to complete.

Next up, Stranded: Alien Dawn is the kind of game you might not typically associate with console gaming. It’s a strategy title in which you build an outpost to keep a band of survivors who crash-land on an alien planet alive.

Build defences to guard against alien attacks, farm for food, and match the skills of your survivors with the right jobs to succeed. This one scores an impressive 81 per cent on Metacritic.

For something a bit breezier, try the Cat Quest games. They are light roleplaying adventures in which you play a… cat on a quest.

The script is full of cat puns, the gameplay loop is simple but fun, and it’s not too difficult. Both Cat Quest and Cat Quest 2 are available from May 21, and each can be finished within 10 hours of play – much shorter than the average “serious” role-playing game.

If you’re up for a bit of video game history, we also recommend trying the PlayStation 1 classic G-Police from 1997. It was made by British developer Psygnosis, maker of Lemmings, a few years after being acquired by Sony in 1993.

G-Police is a futuristic shooter in which you control a helicopter-like craft patrolling a Blade Runner-style city.
