While there’s still over a year to go before the PlayStation 5 finally launches, Sony is slowly releasing more and more details about the console.
Now, Sony has hinted that the PlayStation 5 will be the ‘world’s fastest console’, in a new job ad posted on its website.
The job listing is for a Senior Cloud Engineering Manager at Sony Interactive Entertainment, and says that the successful candidate will ‘be one of the leaders of an elite team that is super excited to launch the upcoming world’s fastest console (PS5) in 2020.’
The listing comes shortly after Sony finally confirmed the name and launch date for its next generation console.
As expected, the console is called the PlayStation 5 , and will launch in time for ‘Holiday 2020.’
In a blog about the news, Jim Ryan , President and CEO of SIE, said: “Since we originally unveiled our next-generation console in April, we know that there’s been a lot of excitement and interest in hearing more about what the future of games will bring.
“Today I’m proud to share that our next-generation console will be called PlayStation 5, and we’ll be launching in time for Holiday 2020.”
In the blog, Mr Ryan also revealed some of the key innovations to expect in the PlayStation 5 controller.
The first innovation is haptic feedback, which will replace the ‘rumble’ technology in current controllers.
Mr Ryan explained: “With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field.
“You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud.”
Secondly, Sony is including ‘adaptive triggers’ in the controller’s trigger buttons.
Mr Ryan added: “Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain.
“In combination with the haptics, this can produce a powerful experience that better simulates various actions.”
