Player grades: Donovan Mitchell scores 71 points, outlast Bulls in OT

The Chicago Bulls were apart of history on Monday, but not in their favor.

Chicago fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers in overtime, 145-134, as Donovan Mitchell scored 71 points, including 42 second-half points and 13 in overtime to clinch the victory for the Cavs.

The Bulls held a 21-point lead in the second quarter before Mitchell caught fire in the second half, closing the gap. With 4.4 seconds remaining, Mitchell purposely missed a free throw, grabbing his own rebound and tying the game with a layup, forcing overtime.

DeMar DeRozan did his best to compete with Mitchell, scoring 44 points of his own on 16-of-32 from the floor.

Check out the player grades from Chicago’s overtime loss below.

DeMar DeRozan: A

DeMar DeRozan tried his best to keep up with Donovan Mitchell on Monday, leading the Bulls with 44 points, three rebounds, four assists, and four steals on 16-of-32 shooting and 10-of-12 from the free throw line. If not for Deebo, the Bulls wouldn’t have stood a chance.

Zach LaVine: B+

Zach LaVine finished Monday’s loss with 26 points, six rebounds, and six assists on 7-of-18 shooting from the floor, including eight fourth quarter points as the game went into overtime. The loss was truly a duel between DeRozan and Donovan Mitchell before Mitchell took over.

Nikola Vucevic: B+

Nikola Vucevic was efficient in Monday’s overtime loss, finishing with 20 points, 13 rebounds, and two assists on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. Only eight shots is below Vooch’s season average but when DeRozan is in a groove like he was, you just have to get out of the way.

Ayo Dosunmu: B

In Monday’s loss to Cleveland, Ayo Dosunmu finished with 11 points, three rebounds, and five assists in 32 minutes on 4-of-8 shooting. Dosunmu had the displeasure of attempting to defend Donovan Mitchell for a good part of the game.

Patrick Williams: C+

Patrick Williams finished with 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, and one steal on Monday. Williams scored eight of his 10 points in the first half while grabbing all five of his rebounds in the first 24 minutes as well.
