Platinum Jubilee food and drink: The best Royal themed meals and food

Millions of people are expected to get together this weekend in celebration of Her Majesty's reign.

Whether you're a fan of the royal family or merely looking set to enjoy a gathering on a day of major celebration, there will be no escaping the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Organisers are encouraging communities large and small to gather for a party on Sunday, wherever is suitable - from your back garden to a huge gathering that is a mile-long.

According to Co-op, a whopping 39 million adults are set to celebrate this weekend.

Lots of businesses are offering themed food to celebrate the occasion, and we rounded up some of the best offerings to help you out.

Pizza Hut Crown Pizza

Fit for a Queen; Pizza Hut's iconic offering (Pizza Hut)

Truly, this is what jubilee celebrations are about. A family favourite, with a little twist designed to celebrate the Jubilee, that instantly makes it extremely fun.

Pizza Hut is marking the royal occasion the only way they know how - with an iconic ‘Crown Crust Pizza’ that is available for one weekend only.

But it's only available at The Hut’s famous lunchtime Buffet, from 2nd-5th June 2022.

The royal pizza was last available in 2012 when it was launched for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Similar to a Stuffed Crust but with a royal twist, it has a regally shaped crust and is topped with Pizza Hut’s finest triple cheese blend.

The royal crust will be featured on two of the most popular Buffet items; the Margherita and Pepperoni pizzas.

Kathryn Austin, people and marketing officer at Pizza Hut Restaurants, sai: “The Pizza Hut Buffet has always been a firm favourite with our guests, we can’t wait to give it the royal treatment with our Crown Crust Pizza, offering our guests a truly unique way to celebrate!

"We’re so excited to bring back the Crown Crust and celebrate this fantastic, historic occasion with our guests.”

Diners can get in on the royal action here.

Genuinely, a range of doughnuts tasty enough to mark the Queen’s incredible 70 year-long reign.

The limited collection includes the Celebration Crown (£2.45) doughnut, filled with cherry kreme and featuring a Union Jack plaque; the Platinum Sprinkles (£2.05) doughnut which is dipped in red icing and topped with white, blue and red jubilee sprinkles; and finally the Jubilee Joy (£2.45) doughnut, stuffed with strawberries and kreme filling and featuring a Jubilee emblem plaque.

Mad O’Rourke’s pies

It's not a Platinum Jubilee weekend without a pie (Mad O'Rourke)

Truly, would it be a jubilee celebration without a classic British pie on the menu?

Tipton’s favourite pie mavericks have given a famous royal dish a Mad O’Rourke’s twist as the restaurant gets ready to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.

Coronation Chicken or "Poulet Reine Elizabeth" was a dish famously created by the Cordon Bleu as part of a luncheon in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953.

Now the dish has been given a 2022 makeover as Mad O’Rourke’s launches its own Coronation Chicken Pie, just in time to celebrate the Queen’s remarkable 70-year reign.

Bringing together chunks of succulent chicken and tangy sultanas in mild, creamy curry sauce, the pie offers all of the best bits of Coronation Chicken, wrapped up in the Pie Factory’s famous golden pastry.

The chicest hamper for the park (Cojean)

If ever there was a time for a posh picnic hamper, this is it.

Perfect for the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend, Cojean has created a sustainable picnic hamper designed to be enjoyed in parks across London from 2nd June to 5th June.

The Parisian fast-food restaurant has created 20 limited edition picnic hampers filled with fresh, sustainable and delicious products to enjoy, ideally in the sunshine.

From June 2nd, picnickers can visit Cojean Selfridges in London and build their own picnic basket to be shared between 2 people for the price of £67.

This includes two sandwiches, two salads, two pastries and two cold-pressed juices. What more do you need?

Subway

A classic sandwich with a Royal twist (Subway)

The sandwich chain has turned to one of its classic sandwiches - the tikka sub - and given it the royal treatment.

An ode to the historic Jubilee staple, the sub - packed with spiced chicken, mayo and mango chutney - has been given a royal twist.

Available from the 25th May to 7th June, the limited-edition Coronation Tikka Sub will be the crowning glory of any Jubilee weekend celebrations.

Inspired by the tea party classic, a lemon drizzle cookie is filled with melt-in-the-mouth white candy chips and lemon flavoured sugar candies – the perfect sweet treat.

The limited-edition Lemon Drizzle Cookie will be available from the 25th May until 30th August so you can indulge all summer long.

For an added treat over the Jubilee weekend (2nd – 5th June), Subway is also offering their guests free delivery on all orders over £10 through Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Just Eat.

Angelina Gosal, head of marketing UK & Ireland at Subway said: “We wanted to offer something extra special to mark the Queen’s 70-year reign, so we’ve created two delicious Jubilee-inspired treats for guests to enjoy throughout the Bank Holiday.”

KFC Coronation Chicken Tower Burger

Coronation chicken with a twist (KFC)

Designed for even the most royal of taste buds, the star of the burger is the KFC coronation mayo that covers one of its chicken breast fillets.

Handily, it contains NO raisins - a win for many of us. It also harks back to the original recipe - which apparently didn't include them at all.

For any concerned fact fans, Angela Wood, who helped develop the dish said it originally included mayonnaise, apricots, onions, bay leaves, red wine, tomato puree and curry paste, cream and roast chicken

She said: "The coronation chicken we made for Her Majesty was nothing like the coronation chicken you get today and it does not have sultanas and things in it!”

But KFC's burger is also loaded with cheese and crisp lettuce, crowned, of course, with a hash brown hidden under the toasted sesame bun.

Available on Deliveroo at 11 KFC stores from 30th May – 5th June, for £6.99.

McDonald's

Finally the Queen might eat McDonald's (McDonald's)

McDonald's is now fit for a Queen as they've had a royal makeover in the run-up to the Jubilee.

The fast-food chain has temporarily changed its famous tagline from "I'm lovin' it" to "one's lovin' it" and has even updated the iconic jingle for the first time ever, recording a new version with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

As well as this, the company are launching a limited-edition china dining set, shaped like McDonald's packaging, so customers can 'dine like a Queen'.

This will include a Big Mac, fries and milkshake packaging reimagined as an elegant china set, with Platinum Jubilee detailing to mark the occasion.

There are 70 sets of these up for grabs via an exclusive competition on the McDonald’s App from Tuesday, May 31.

Gift & Graze

Why have a slice of cake when you can have a cake pop instead? (Gift and Graze)

It’s been ten years since the Queen’s last Jubilee and a lot has changed in Britain’s culinary scene since then.

Now, for instance, we don't just settle for a slice of cake - why would we when it can be delivered as a cake pop instead?

This cute £5 set includes a chocolate lollipop made using Belgian milk chocolate, decorated with a chocolate golden crown and topped with blue, red and white sprinkles.

And a cake push pop with layers of vanilla sponge cake mixed with layers of red, white and blue vanilla buttercream filling - topped with coloured sprinkles, of course.

Cocktail at Nightjar Carnaby

If you're looking for a cocktail to toast her Maj' with - this Soho bar has 'Going Platinum (£10) - made with Whitley Neill Jubilee Gin.

There's also the 'Pre-Show’ where you can celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, with live piano performances and £10 drinks, available exclusively in the early evening (6pm-8.30pm).

Morrison's

Morrison's Clarence The Corgi Jubilee Cake (Reach Commissioned/Steve Bainbridge)

As her favourite dog breed, corgis are instantly thought of when it comes to the Queen. Naturally, Morrison's has taken this one step further with a corgi cake.

The chocolate-covered swiss roll, decorated with red, blue and white sprinkles and a sweet corgi face made of chocolate, has been nicknamed Clarence by Morrisons customers.

Clarence the corgi cake is now available in Morrisons stores across the UK. It serves 12 people and costs £6.

Byron

If HRH fancied a burger, it would probably be this one (Byron Burger)

The burger chain has created the understated ‘Elizabeefan’ - which leaves us wondering if the Queen has ever eaten a burger? If she hasn't, perhaps this is the one designed to tempt her.

It's made up of an Aberdeen Angus 6oz beef patty, topped with pulled beef brisket, Red Leicester cheese, peppery watercress, pickled red onions, and horseradish mayo.

Franca Manca

Free fizz? Yes please (Franco Manca)

When you think about it, nothing says '70 years on the throne' like free fizz and pizza.

Franco Manca is offering a free glass of prosecco to any customer ordering one of their ‘Jubliee Special’ pizzas across the Bank Holiday weekend.

Meat-lovers can opt for the Franco Manca Jubilee Meat Special #304. A delicious sourdough pizza, topped with free range yorkshire fennel sausage, mixed wild mushrooms, British mozzarella, Colston Bassett stilton with a spiced butternut squash base.

Veggies can get their hands on the Franco Manca Jubilee Veg special #411, with rich organic tomatoes, caramelised red onions, mixed wild mushrooms, British mozzarella & seasonal pesto.

And don’t worry, for our vegan Franco Manca fans, the Franco Manca Jubilee Vegan Special #604 offers roasted potatoes with onions, organic tomato, kalamata black olives, red onions, Violife vegan cheese, capers from Salina and fresh mint on a light tomato base.

Homeslice

An intriguingly different combination (Homeslice)

The London-based chain has gone for something unconventional - a £30 Confit Duck, Coronation Ricotta, Pickled Cucumber, Cornish Yarg topped with an Apple, Date & Lemon Granola.

Refreshingly different.

It's available on Just Eat for Business for businesses from 30th May until 5th June for £30.

Aldi craft beer

The lovely people at Aldi are marking the occasion with a true British treat that will be perfect for your Jubilee party - special British ales and lagers.

The supermarket is selling four limited-edition British-themed craft beers with royal-themed labels, costing £1.69 for a 440ml can.

The special range features a Session IPA, Session Pale Ale, British Ale and British Lager with packaging featuring Big Ben, a Tower of London Guard, Nelson on his Column, and the Queen’s corgis.

Sainsbury's

These sweet cupcakes are also perfect for your Jubilee picnic (Sainsbury’s)

Is coronation chicken passé? Can you make actually shoehorn it into every product? Does anyone actually add sultanas to the mix?

Sainsbury's has boldly gone where many haven't by creating a whole line of coronation chicken products.

This includes: Coronation Chicken Nuts, £2, Coronation Chicken Pastries, £2.65 and Coronation Chicken Crisps, £1

Inspiring work.

Burger King

Burger King is selling its Chicken and Vegan Royales for £1.99 all week - as a nod to the Queen's Platinum Jubilee - though they haven't got any special twists.

The Burger King sandwiches contain breaded chicken or vegan chicken with lettuce and mayo in a sesame seed bun, and normally cost around £4.99.

Burger King has also designed special cardboard crowns for the Platinum Jubilee , marking Queen Elizabeth II' s 70 years on the throne.

The crowns, designed by British artist Toby Triumph, feature 26 illustrations – each representing milestones from Her Royal Highness’ 70-year reign.

The designs range from Beatles-inspired illustrations to Spice Girls references, and are meant to "capture the cultural melting pot of Great Britain over the years", Burger King said.

Fans can get their hands on a free Jubilee Crown in Burger King restaurants from June 1, as well as at parades across London and Windsor.
